Individuals and staff from Milestone traveled to Springfield to take part in the Commit to the Community Advocacy meeting. The group spent the day meeting with lawmakers and advocating for themselves.
Illinois State Senator Steve Stadelman toured the Milestone Dental Clinic to learn more about the services provided by the clinic and the need for Dental Services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. After the tour , he and State Representative Litesa E. Wallace held a Town Hall at Milestone’s Elmwood Heights facility to hear from area service providers what the impact of the state budget would be for their organizations.
Milestone’s mission is to provide an environment where each Individual may reach their full potential. In many cases this includes having a job in the community. When individuals are ready to take this step Milestone staff assists them in reaching this goal. Currently, Individuals in the Downtown CILA program work at McDonald’s, Goodwill, Home Depot, Miller Engineering, Fridh Corporation, Rockford Park District, and the Rockford Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. The job search may take many different paths and Milestone’s staff is there to help with each step. Milestone staff helps prepare the Individuals for the job interview, making sure that all necessary paperwork is completed correctly and that the Individual is at ease with the process.
The impact of the community jobs cannot be measured and goes far beyond the paycheck. From their work experiences Individuals receive a sense of independence and pride. Community workers who spend their work time between Milestone Industries and their community job are willing to assist their peers, teaching them new skills when they work together at Milestone industries. Both the staff and the Individuals call it a win-win situation for all involved.
The Milestone Dental Clinic was awarded a grant from the Richard J McGrath
Endowment Fund at Heritage Credit Union, for the un and Under Insured
Patient Fund. In January 2007, Heritage Credit Union founded The Richard J. McGrath Endowment Fund is named after one of the Credit Union's former
board members, Dick McGrath, who donated over 30 years of service to Heritage. The purpose of the endowment fund is to help support local social organizations.
Every year Milestone’s Social Services staff surveys the individuals we serve and their guardians in an effort to gauge satisfaction levels and learn what we can do better to meet their needs.
Individuals Satisfaction Results
We surveyed nearly 200 residents, and are pleased to report satisfaction levels of our individuals continue to be high.
98% responded yes, staff treats them well
99% report that staff listens to them
97% report Milestone is a good place to live
98% report they have friends here at Milestone.
Guardian Satisfaction Results
We surveyed 234 guardians and are pleased to report their satisfaction levels are also very high.
Over 99% responded yes to the question “Does communication with Milestone meet your needs?”
We received a rating of “Excellent” or “Good” 97% of the time as it relates to Professionalism, Courtesy, Helpful, Knowledgeable, Showing Concern and Overall Communication.
More than 500 people helped Milestone, Inc. celebrate its 40th anniversary, Saturday, November 16th at Giovanni's.
Current Milestone President and CEO Shawn Way unveiled a portrait of Milestone Founder Jim Hamilton which will be hung at Milestone Industries, the Milestone Training Center, Elmwood Heights and RocVale Children's Home.
